Shower Thoughts – Why We’re Most Creative in the Shower
If you’re anything like us, you’ll have found that your best and most creative thoughts come to you while you’re in the shower, but did you know that there’s a real, scientific reason for this?
According to leading neuroscientists, the most original and productive thoughts require a creative state of mind and a creative state of mind requires three things: dopamine – the neurotransmitter that affects the pleasure and reward parts of our brain; distraction – something to take our mind out of a set pattern of thought that might be holding us back; and relaxation – the chance to let our minds wander free from stress and external stimuli.
And where better to treat your brain to all of these things than in the shower?
Experts say that the dopamine-triggering and relaxing sensations of warm water, habitual routines of washing, and stimulus-free environment of your everyday shower make it the perfect place to think your most creative thinks. Just make sure to keep a waterproof notepad in the shower to keep track of all those ingenious ideas!
