The Great Debate: Solved Thanks To A 124-Year-Old Patent
For those of you who have found yourself in a heated debate regarding the proper way to hang a roll of toilet paper in the bathroom, it’s time to set the record straight. As it happens, the correct answer has actually been around for 124 years and should have solved this debate years ago!
“My invention… consists in a roll of wrapping paper with perforations on the line of the division between one sheet and the next, so as to be easily torn apart, such roll of wrapping paper forming a new article of manufacture.” – U.S. Patent For Wrapping Paper
What this means
The patent above states that the end of the roll should be on the outside while hung, so in the “over” position. In other words, if you believe, and have believed for a very long time that the toilet roll should hand in the “under position” you are horribly wrong and have been for a number of years. If this is all too much and you are still not willing to accept this as gospel, here is more proof in the form of yet another patent.
